FEI Chattanooga - Winter '24 -'25

Economic development was the standout theme in the discussions led by our December and January
speakers. In December, Mayor Tim Kelley delivered an insightful presentation highlighting the initiatives
shaping Chattanooga’s community. His vision of Chattanooga being the city of choice for businesses and
residents is driven by his deep-rooted passion for his hometown, sharp business acumen and
commitment to collaborative leadership.

In January, Charles Wood, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce built on the Mayor’s message, offering
deeper explanation into the critical infrastructure, business strategies, and ongoing investments that are
being made to achieve the shared vision of inclusive success. Both the Mayor’s Office and the Chamber
are focused on ensuring a vibrant and thriving community for all.

Two University of Tennessee Chattanooga accounting students shared their experiences with the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the February meeting. The students shared about
how they’ve gained real-world experience and ignited a passion for using their accounting degrees to
make a real difference in the community through the VITA program. Dr. Rebecca Shortridge,
Department Head of Accounting and Professor at UTC, along with the students, answered questions
about the future of accounting, including addressing the declining pipeline and the integration of
cutting-edge technology into the UTC accounting program.

FEI members appreciate the winter sessions speakers and are looking forward to April and May which
will include speakers from Miller & Martin and LBMC.
