Thank you to Jesse Kegley with Emerge IT who sponsored our meeting on Thursday night on Cybersecurity in the Age of AI.
Keypoints:
- Cybercrime is increasing at an accelerated pace because of AI capabilities.
- While the good guys are appropriately discerning of AI and follow responsible AI adoption principles and regulations, the bad guys definitely do not. Thus, they are adopting AI to perform their nefarious acts faster than good guys can often keep up. It’s quite a conundrum.
- AI unlocks massive scalability for both us and them. Given the global workforce gap in cybersecurity, the IT industry needs to embrace AI to catch up (and keep up) with the bad actors. As a result, we need to rapidly develop statutes in the US regarding AI use.
- Bad actors are quickly and inexpensively executing deepfake tactics, which are becoming more realistic and convincing by the day.
- Given this, there’s a clear and pressing need to evolve end-user training to accommodate for this deepfake risk.
- These realities reinforce companies' need to adopt a Cybersecurity Framework, such as the approaches endorsed by the National Institute of Standards & Technology.
Jesse Kegley, CRO of Emerge IT and our Cybersecurity Manager, Jeff Aiken, were featured speakers at the event, along with representatives from U.S. Bank, including Vice President Charles Banks, who expertly facilitated the conversation.
In the Age of AI, cybersecurity is, in many ways, a whole new ballgame.
