Why does your company sponsor FEI Tampa Bay Chapter?

The Baldwin Group is an insurance brokerage leader and proudly sponsors the FEI Tampa Bay Chapter because we value the vital role financial executives play in driving organizational success. This partnership reflects our commitment to advancing professional development, fostering thought leadership, and strengthening collaboration within the local business community. Through our engagement with FEI members, we share expertise in risk management, employee benefits, and strategic solutions designed to help organizations thrive. Supporting FEI aligns perfectly with our mission to serve as a trusted advisor for companies navigating complex insurance and risk challenges.

How does your company provide value to finance executives in the Tampa Bay area?

The Baldwin Group is a strategic partner to finance executives in the Tampa Bay area by delivering cost optimization through data-driven solutions, proactive risk management, and customized programs that go beyond traditional insurance brokerage. We work with organizations to assess their total risk profile, including property, liability, employee benefits, operational exposures, and use industry benchmarking along with predictive analytics to identify gaps and emerging risks. Insurance is complex and constantly evolving. Baldwin’s focus is on bringing clarity and financial discipline to benefits and risk management—so companies can plan confidently and protect their people and businesses.

Baldwin delivers a boutique, client-focused experience backed by the resources and expertise of a top national brokerage. Founded and headquartered in Tampa, we are deeply rooted in—and committed to—the success of our local community.

Tell us a little bit about your career, educational/professional background and how you got to where you are today.

I spent 14 years as a professional baseball player, including time in the Major Leagues with the Rays and Royals. During that career, I earned a finance degree from JMU, completed accounting coursework at USF, and passed the CPA exam. After retiring, I joined KPMG in audit and advanced to Senior Associate before exploring new opportunities.

During interviews for an M&A analyst role at The Baldwin Group, the founders encouraged me to consider an Advisor position instead—a pivotal decision I’m glad I made. My CPA background and Big 4 experience allow me to help CFOs align benefit strategies with financial objectives, optimize cost structures, and manage risk.

Do you think it takes a certain kind of personality to thrive in your field? What traits are most important?

The insurance industry is a natural fit for me because I’m relationship-driven, analytical, and results-oriented—traits that align with Baldwin’s core values: Grit, Genuine, Engaging, Discerning, and Purpose. My clients know I’m committed to delivering the best solutions and building long-term partnerships.
Grit, in particular, has shaped my career—from navigating the highs and lows of professional baseball to advising businesses in a complex, ever-changing insurance landscape. That resilience, combined with financial expertise, allows me to help organizations align risk and benefits strategies with their business goals.

What are some organizations you participate in professionally and personally?

I stay actively engaged in the business and local community as a member of FEI and ACG, while also giving back through my parish finance committee and serving on the Southern Florida Make-A-Wish advisory board. Professionally, I’ve invested in being an industry leader by earning credentials such as Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) and Certified Self-Funding Specialist (CSFS), and by staying at the forefront of insurance innovations and trends.
