What is your most rewarding accomplishment as a finance executive?
Knowing that I have made a difference in some peoples’ lives. I am still in touch with a couple of former employees who worked with me in their early years and have left to build very successful lives. They come back to me to thank me in giving them the skills to be successful! I can be a tough, demanding boss but I also want to be that mentor, teacher that explains why we are doing what we are doing and that we all work together to make one successful team.
How did you discover your passion for finance?
I did not discover how passionate I was about Finance until I took a position as an Operation Supervisor in the Healthcare Industry several years ago. Then I realized I kept asking about the numbers, how was this reconciled, and I felt like I did not see the whole picture. Three years later I left to be a Controller in the same Industry.
What is one piece of information you wish someone had told you when you first started your finance career?
To not be afraid to try out various Industries and research companies you admire then see what they offer for opportunities. I learned later in life you can apply your Accounting Skills to a variety of Industries and this way you can keep it interesting and grow at the same time!
What job would you pursue if you weren’t in finance?
Become a Psychologist but I didn’t want to be in school for that long!
What are some of your personal hobbies outside of finance?
Love to garden, do crafts and travel throughout Europe.
